Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to some of the more common questions regarding appointments, treatment, rehabilitation, imaging, insurance, and clinic information.

FAQ’s

Appointments & Booking

  • No referral is needed to book an appointment.

  • Comfortable clothing is recommended where possible, particularly if assessment of movement or exercise is likely to be involved. Shorts or clothing that can be moved easily may sometimes be helpful depending on the area being assessed or treated.

  • Appointment length varies depending on the service booked. Full appointment information can be found on the Fees & Appointments page.

  • Where appropriate, assessment and treatment are often carried out within the same appointment.

  • Yes — appointments can be booked online using the booking system available throughout the website.

Treatment & Assessment

  • Both professions focus on helping improve pain, movement, rehabilitation, and physical function, although their training backgrounds and treatment approaches may differ slightly.

Traditionally, osteopathy is often considered more hands-on in its approach, while physiotherapy is commonly associated more with rehabilitation and exercise-based care. In reality, there is often significant overlap between the two professions.

As a dual-qualified Osteopath and Physiotherapist, I often incorporate elements of both approaches where appropriate in order to tailor treatment and rehabilitation to the individual and their goals.

  • Treatment should remain appropriate and manageable throughout the session. Some techniques may feel slightly uncomfortable depending on the area being treated and the nature of the symptoms, although treatment is always adapted to the individual.

It is also normal for some people to experience mild soreness for 24–48 hours afterwards, similar to how the body may feel following exercise or physical activity.

  • Assessment often looks at how different areas of the body, movement patterns, lifestyle factors, training, and recovery may be contributing to symptoms.

  • Where appropriate, rehabilitation, movement guidance, and exercise prescription may form part of the treatment plan.

  • In many cases, yes. Treatment may still be appropriate during pregnancy depending on the individual and stage of pregnancy. We generally recommend waiting until after the first trimester before receiving treatment, unless otherwise advised by your healthcare team.

  • In many cases, yes. Rehabilitation is often adapted around the individual, their symptoms, and training goals where appropriate.

  • Yes - treatment and rehabilitation may support a wide range of gym, sports, running, and movement-related injuries.

  • No - Recovery often focuses on modifying load and movement appropriately rather than complete rest where possible.

Imaging & Referrals

  • Yes - where clinically appropriate, onward referral pathways for imaging such as MRI scans, ultrasound imaging, or X-rays may be discussed as part of your assessment and management plan.

  • No - Assessment often helps determine whether imaging may be useful or appropriate.

  • Where appropriate, onward referral to GPs, consultants, imaging providers, or other healthcare professionals may be recommended.

  • Yes - where appropriate, letters or reports regarding workstation ergonomics, workplace adjustments, or physical demands at work may be provided following assessment.

  • Yes — registered physiotherapists are legally able to issue fit notes where clinically appropriate following assessment. Recommendations are based on your symptoms, functional limitations, and ability to carry out work safely.

  • No - your information, treatment details, and medical records will remain confidential and will not be shared without your consent unless there is a legal or safeguarding obligation to do so.

  • Yes - where clinically appropriate, referral letters, brief medical reports, or supporting documentation may be provided following assessment. Additional fees may apply depending on the type and length of documentation requested.
